Dr. Candice L. Bledsoe, SMU faculty and founder of Action Research Center, discussed the experiences of the underrepresented during TEDxSMU Women. TEDWomen is a TED event curated by TED that focuses on women and women’s issues. TEDxWomen events are TEDx events hosted around the live webcast of TEDWomen, and also feature live, local speakers. The Collective is a creative arts group comprised of artists, singers, activists, writers, scholars, and academics. The Collective shares the stories of minoritized women in America. Through thought-provoking and award-winning performances, we aim to lift up and create space for women of color to share their voices, especially as it relates to the intersection of race, gender, and class. Dr. Candice L. Bledsoe named fellow for Texas Project for Human Rights

Dr. Richard Reddick, Assistant Vice President of Diversity and Community Engagement and Associate Professor of Higher Education at the University of Texas at Austin, is an expert on higher education and African-American students and faculty. His research analyzes mentoring relationships between faculty and black students, including factors influencing faculty mentorship and the advising and counseling approaches utilized by faculty in mentoring black students.
